BIOLOGY
Oxytocin is a nonapeptide (nine-amino-acid) neuropeptide hormone synthesized in the hypothalamus and released via the posterior pituitary. It acts through the oxytocin receptor, a G-protein-coupled receptor, and is a long-standing subject of neuroendocrine and behavioral neuroscience research.

Oxytocin has been extensively studied in preclinical and clinical research models examining smooth-muscle physiology, social and affiliative behavior, stress response, and central nervous system signaling. Its well-characterized receptor pharmacology makes it a valuable reference tool for in-vitro receptor assays and in-vivo behavioral neuroscience experimental design.

This product is intended solely for in-vitro and preclinical research use and is not for human or veterinary consumption.

KEY RESEARCH APPLICATIONS OF OXYTOCIN

1. Oxytocin Receptor Signaling
Oxytocin demonstrates significant activity in receptor and signaling studies through:
• Receptor Binding: Selective agonist activity at the oxytocin receptor (OXTR).
• GPCR Signaling: Activates intracellular signaling cascades in target tissues.
• Smooth-Muscle Physiology: Classic model system for receptor-mediated contraction.
Supporting Studies:
Gimpl, G. & Fahrenholz, F. — Physiological Reviews. “The oxytocin receptor system: structure, function, and regulation.” PubMed – PMID: 11274341

2. Social Behavior & Neuroscience
Investigated in behavioral and CNS research models through:
• Affiliative Behavior: Studied for effects on social bonding in animal models.
• Stress & Anxiety Pathways: Examined in neuroendocrine stress research.
• Central Signaling: Applied in studies of CNS oxytocinergic pathways.
Supporting Studies:
Meyer-Lindenberg, A. et al. — Nature Reviews Neuroscience. “Oxytocin and vasopressin in the human brain: social neuropeptides for translational medicine.” PubMed – PMID: 21852800

3. Neuroendocrine & Physiological Studies
Explored in broader physiology research through:
• Hormonal Axis Research: Studied within hypothalamic-pituitary signaling.
• Comparative Pharmacology: Reference agonist for receptor characterization.
• Translational Models: Applied across neuroscience and physiology research.
Supporting Studies:
